DotA and Aeria Games. Match Made in HELL

For my first post, I guess I shall flame. It's no secret among my circle that I am a fan of DotA games. If you don't know, DotAs are multi-user strategy games with third person camera views. They typically consist of sending grunts out ahead of you to provide cover as you try to smash up a few turrets. Ultimately, the goal is either to get the most kills in the time limit or demolish the enemy's base. Mmmmmm, a game that requires a bit of intelligence. The name comes from the original scenario, Defense of the Ancients. This was part of the game Warlord III. Although I've never played the scenario, I love the genre and all parts of it. Until Realm of the Titans. League of Legends and Demigod are two of my favorite games of all time. Both excellent DotAs in term of gameplay. Aeria Games attempted to make something similar, but instead created a horrible monster. Aeria has created the Frankenstein of the DotA genre. The graphics are nice, something you'd expect from years of RPG gaming. The controls are a mess. Yes, I know I have the ability to change the controls at the menu, but it's the principle of the matter. What's the preferred method for using skills? The numerical keys above the alphabetical keyboard. This abomination of a game uses the alphabet keys on the top row. Confusing in the heat of battle I must say. The HUD layout is also horrible. Call me old fashioned, but I like a symmetrical, boxed HUD. RotT's HUD features curves and contours I find distracting, along with flashing lights on everything. EVERYTHING. I'm ok with a few glowing modules telling me to upgrade my skills, but the shop icon glowing every time I kill something? Nah Aeria, you blew it. The camera is also not really third person. It doesn't have a very far zoom out, making for a limited field of view. It's more a wierd 2 1/2 point of view. Don't get me wrong, Aeria has given me many hours of enjoyment between Grand Fantasia and Eden Eternal, but I don't think DotA was meant to be for them. Now I feel like going play some LoL. Goodnight.
